  • Le prétérit be+ing

Il sert souvent à la description d'une action qui est en cours de déroulement dans le passé souvent interrompue par une autre action, un autre événement.

    1) Cathy (to sleep)  was sleeping  when the phone (to ring)  rang.

    2) I (to meet) met my uncle while I (to do) was doing the shopping.

    3) We (to write) were writting letters when they all (to come in) came in.

    4) When the neighbours (to see) saw her, she (to talk) was talking to her friend.

    5) The policeman (to direct) was directing the trafic when the car (to crash) crashed into a shop.
